Laying the foundation - The Building Blocks of Care
Chiropractic care is like maintaining a house - little problems that crop up here and there need to be taken care of at the first sign of trouble before they become big problems. The same holds true with your body's structure. If your spine (your body's foundation) and the supporting muscles are not strong, many things can go wrong including back and neck pain, headaches or other symptoms. Just as with the foundation of a house, if things are not strong enough and in their proper place the foundation cannot support the building. It is important to remember that the following are basic guidelines. Dr. Gary Sclabassi will tailor the amount of care specific to your needs based on the severity of your problem. The amount of time you decide to benefit from chiropractic care is always up to you. Following are three general phases of chiropractic care...
Phase 1: Relief Care
Most patients come to our office with neck or back pain, whether it is from an injury, accident or work related. Depending on the severity of your problem, it is typical to need care 2-3 times per week for 4 to 6 weeks to achieve complete pain relief. Treatment may include adjustments, muscle stimulation or laser therapy if recommended. Spinal decompression is also available for patients who would benefit.
Phase 2: Corrective/Restorative Care
During the corrective care phase, muscles and other tissues are allowed to heal more completely through continued adjustments and the introduction of corrective exercises. This phase will help prevent a relapse or re-injury. It is typical to need care 4-8 times per month for up to 6 months, depending on your overall health and the severity of your problem.
Phase 3: Wellness Care
Your body needs upkeep on a regular basis, just like your house or car, to keep it running properly. Once pain relief and correction has taken place, it is important to come in for periodic adjustments to avoid problems in the future. Usually, this only requires a quick visit to the chiropractor 1-2 times per month, based on your lifestyle and goals.
